Description

*Now a Netflix film* The inspiring true story of Jessica Watson—an Australian teenager who set out to sail solo around the world!

On May 15, 2010, after 210 days at sea and more than 22,000 nautical miles, 16-year-old Jessica Watson sailed her 33-foot boat triumphantly back to land. She had done it. She was the youngest person to sail solo, unassisted, and nonstop around the world.

Jessica spent years preparing for this moment, years focused on achieving her dream. Yet only eight months before, she collided with a 63,000-ton freighter. It seemed to many that she’d failed before she’d even begun, but Jessica brushed herself off, held her head high, and kept going.

Told in Jessica’s own words, True Spirit is the story of her epic voyage. It tells how a young girl, once afraid of everything, decided to test herself on an extraordinary adventure that included gale-force winds, mountainous waves, hazardous icebergs, and extreme loneliness on a vast sea, with no land in sight and no help close at hand. True Spirit is an inspiring story of risk, guts, determination, and achievement that ultimately proves we all have the power to live our dreams—no matter how big or small.

I loved this book! Could not put it down & am exhausted (I feel like I sailed with Jessica!), exhilarated, inspired & optimistic. What a ride she took me on! Her honesty, integrity, grit & gutsy optimism shine through it all. The video clips & photos are a bonus treat…like canned mangos! Well done Jessica & wow, just wow! Your family is amazing, your support peeps sublime - thank you for the wild ride of sailing the “wildest stretch”!!

I could say much and the common, however, the highest praise and the words I know Jessica would most appreciate are these: I can't wait to give a copy of this book to my granddaughter.

This book is a glorious celebration of the human spirit!More than a physical adventure, rather a beautiful story with a beginning and a glorious Hollywood ending! All started and performed by a cute little girl。The contrast between the sublime and ferocious powers of nature and a sweet beautiful innocent girl is at the heart of the story。The videos in the Ebook version give those of us who probably wont sail across the ocean the feeling of doing it。 Ths book and the book by Tania Aebi, two young girls, are both among the greatest sailing adventure books ever! because they are human beings like us who are doing it and not professional sailors。

This was a great book to read even for someone like me who knows nothing about sailing. The videos in this book was an added bonus. It's hard to imagine this 16 year old girl sailing around the world by herself. Great story.

Jessica has shown just what a normal human being can achieve should you set your mind to it. She is truly inspirational. A great autobiography and the blog posts and videos that come with the book are fantastic too.
